Main Stage Sponsor of Vintage in the Hudson Valley Festival
Crafted with history. Trusted by artists. Built for beauty.
We are proud to welcome Sundial Wire as the Main Stage Sponsor of Vintage in the Hudson Valley Festival.
Their support helps make it possible for us to bring live music to the festival all weekend long while keeping tickets affordable and the experience accessible for families, music lovers, vintage enthusiasts, and the wider community.
Sundial Wire is more than a sponsor. They are a company rooted in craftsmanship, history, and timeless design, values that beautifully align with the spirit of our festival.
A Legacy of Craftsmanship Since 1992
Sundial Wire began in 1992 when founder Jim Kent was working in set design for the film Billy Bathgate, based on the E.L. Doctorow novel set in the 1920s. While creating period-correct sets, he needed authentic cloth-covered wire — the kind that would have actually existed in that era.
But there was a problem: no one seemed to make it anymore.
Long before internet searches made sourcing easier, Jim called old wire manufacturers one by one, tracking down names from vintage spools he found in hardware stores and supply houses. Eventually, he found a manufacturer willing to produce a small run, and that search became the beginning of Sundial Wire.
What started as a practical need on a film set became a company devoted to making some of the finest American-made cloth-covered wire available today.

From Garage Startup to Industry Favorite

Like so many great businesses, Sundial Wire began small...truly small.
It started in a garage, a basement, and a sun room, with family members packing, spooling, shipping, and building the business piece by piece. Over time, Sundial Wire grew from a niche solution for period film sets into a trusted source for customers across many industries.
Today, Sundial Wire produces a wide range of cotton and rayon braided wire in dozens of colors, patterns, and styles, all with the same attention to quality that built their name.
Their wire is newly manufactured in the United States using copper wire covered in PVC and finished with cotton or rayon braid for a beautiful vintage look and feel.

For spaces where character counts, standard modern wire can instantly break the mood. Sundial Wire helps preserve the integrity of a room, fixture, or object with materials that feel intentional, historically aware, and visually refined.
Why Their Quality Stands Out
Sundial Wire is deeply committed to quality.
They braid wire using cotton or rayon, not nylon, because they believe synthetic-looking finishes do not offer the same beauty or authenticity. Rayon, made from cellulose, has an elegant appearance similar to silk, while cotton offers a classic historic look.
Their manufacturing team takes pride in creating wire with a firm, even braid and consistent twist. Every product is made with close attention to craftsmanship, because details matter — especially when the wire itself is part of the visual story.
With genuine Sundial Wire, customers know exactly what they are getting: thoughtfully made, visually beautiful, high-quality cloth-covered wire.

Made in America
Sundial Wire remains committed to American manufacturing.
Their braided wire is made in Massachusetts, and the wire itself is also made in the United States. That commitment to domestic production has been part of the company’s values from the beginning.
In a world increasingly filled with shortcuts, Sundial Wire continues to stand for quality, care, and craftsmanship.

A New Chapter, Same Spirit
When Sundial Wire announced that it might stop making wire, longtime customers were heartbroken. The company had become something rare — a trusted source for beautifully made materials that were hard to find anywhere else.
That is when Aaron, a longtime customer with a background in theater production, lighting, sound, and technology, stepped in.
After learning the business might close, Aaron visited the workshop, saw the care behind the company firsthand, and asked whether the owners would consider selling it. Because he understood what Sundial meant — not just as a product, but as a piece of living craft — he felt it was too special to lose.
Today, Sundial Wire continues with the same spirit that made it beloved in the first place: personal care, high standards, beautiful products, and a deep appreciation for the people who use them.
Under Aaron’s leadership, the goal is simple: to continue making the finest cloth-covered wire possible while honoring the legacy Jim and Hilary built.
