A Heritage of Craftsmanship
Back in the early 1990's something began to disappear. Historic, cloth-wound electrical wire, used by set dressers and designers for film, tv and stage productions, was a critical component of period productions. Most of it stopped being manufactured in the mid 20th century, and for decades it could be found in antique and old hardware stores, but slowly what was left began to dry up. One of these set dressers decided to start making it himself, and so Sundial Wire was born.
Operating from a small workshop in western Massachusetts, Sundial built its reputation on handcrafted cloth-covered wire - materials made with the same attention to detail and traditional techniques that defined an earlier era of American manufacturing. Every spool represented a commitment to doing things right, not fast.
In July 2025, Sundial Wire announced it would be closing its doors. For those who understood what the company represented, it felt like the end of something irreplaceable.
A New Direction
But instead of disappearing, Sundial found new life - and a new focus.
In 2025, a longtime Sundial customer and former lighting and sound engineer acquired the company to combine Sundial's wire braiding mastery with professional audio expertise—creating Sundial Audio, a brand dedicated to premium handcrafted cables for musicians, engineers, and anyone who refuses to compromise on quality.
The insight was simple: the same construction methods that made Sundial's lamp cord exceptional could be applied to professional audio cable. Durable braided jackets, hand-soldered connections, and materials chosen for long-term reliability - techniques refined over decades, now purpose-built for signal integrity and real-world performance.
Built to Last a Lifetime
Every cable is still handcrafted in the same Massachusetts workshop, using the same attention to detail that defined the original Sundial Wire products. Professional-grade connectors, durable braided construction, and stress-testing that goes beyond lab conditions- these cables are built for the road, the studio, and everything in between.
The Touring Series handles nightly setup and teardown without losing signal integrity. The Studio Series brings that same durability to permanent installations, with premium materials chosen for the long haul.
